Did my political compass again (you're not supposed to do the test twice, but it's been about two years since I last did it, so I thought it'd be ok).
Here are my new results:
Economic Left/Right: -7.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.28
My results two years ago were:
Economic Left/Right: -6.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.10
So yeah, I've turned slightly more communist (not Marxist-communist), and a lot more anarchist. Due in part to a coupla things which I've read, mainly these two (neither of them fully, I cba
The communist is mainly due to reading Peter Kropotkin, especially Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution. It's a very, VERY, interesting book, and I recommended it to anyone who believes that communism (as in a economic system based on mutual aid and free trade, not USSR-style dictatorship) "can't work because of human nature".
The anarchist is mainly due to reading An Anarchist FAQ*. I haven't read all of it (it's fucking huge!) but the parts I have read, I can find no, or at least no intrinsic, fault with. (However if you believe in economics then you'll find it a bit biased towards social rather than individualist philosophies.) Anarchist theory is very critical of the main components of modern society. So, I recommended this to those conventional people who are so "roused to fury by departures from convention, largely because they regard such departures as a criticism of themselves." (Bertrand Russell - Conquest of Happiness). You will either be a cry-baby and get all defensive like Mr Russell suggests, or it might shock you into thinking for yourself.
Obviously, I don't expect the majority of people to agree with these links I recommend, but I would hope that the people who do read them to take an interest in them and learn to at least understand them, without feeling pissed off or insulted, or feeling the need to ridicule these ooo-ahh-unconventional ideas.
My thoughts on things will change over time, but I expect that the general gist of them will remain around this level. Or maybe not, I might turn into a pseudofree-market neobullshit-economics-believing capita-fascist, who knows.
(Some people who know my politics better might be surprised that I "only" got -7. My response is that most of my "extreme" views are related to eventual society. The Political Compass only has questions that related to immediate society, and my views on this are less extreme than one might assume, given the fact that I constantly bitch about capitalism and money.
